Some People Just have Big Hearts

Well by now you all know I am trying really hard to raise money and awareness for Type 1 Diabetes by hosting a virtual 5K (Details Here).  My nephew has it, it is a crappy disease, enough said....

So, like I said I have been trying to get people to sign up for the Virtual 5K.  Well one friend has gone the extra mile (bahahaha, pun intended). Her efforts to aid in this cause have really touched me.    My friend Liz who is donating a necklace much like the one below went above and beyond. She is now, in addition to donating said necklace to the raffle, organized a group to do the 5K together and donating a second necklace within that group.  The kindness of others sometimes just amazes me.  Thank you Liz.  You are one amazing lady.

Now for news of the 5K.  Thank you so much to those that have registered.  The list of those currently registered can be seen below.  I have had a ton of people say they are going to register but not many have.  I hope it is just people haven't had time to do so.  I am not sure what a realistic goal is for something like this but, dang I would love to get a few hundred people to do this thing.  That means a few thousand dollars for JDRF and while I am sure that isn't going to fund a whole research project alone, it is something. It is so hard the first time out on a fundraiser like this to know what is realistic or even what are the best ways to get people involved.  I sort of feel like I am taking shots in the dark and hoping for the best.  But I am HOPEFUL!!! I mean really hopeful that the running  and diabetes communities can come together here in cyberspace and do something big for Type 1.  There is a chance.  I know this can be big.  Just not quite sure how to get there.  If you have ideas on how I can get more people involved let me know.  I will be on it like white on rice (ummmm yah I love rice, :)).

Tara - how about a dailymile challenge? You could create it and ask people to join there and also donate.

Maybe the dailymile team would help spread the word?

I'm doing my best on Twitter...we will get the word out.

Ok, let me try that. I posted on DM but no one responded. So maybe a challenge. Let me see, thanks Anne.

I *know* I said I would be registered by Friday...but some rather ugly events happened in my town and has taken much of my focus the last 48 hours or so. However, I am now registered. You got me on the buzz from having just finished a Pikermi. My knees hurt and I'm tired, but I'm supposed to be. I will continue to pester my FB tribe to sign up or at least donate.
